Memory, despite being subjective and dynamic, anchors us and provides a sense of place and knowing. This piece explores the reflective quality of memory, fragile, fragmented over time, and forever changing; the comfort of remembering is not always consistent or guaranteed. Caring for my mother, who has dementia, memory is prominent in my experience lately. It’s fascinating to me what is remembered, what is forgotten, and how it’s constantly changing. While lacking stability, these remnants of memory are often filled with incredible moments of beauty and joy, rooted in our connection with each other and to the land. Pieces of understanding, carried by water within all of us.
