Nature has always been the best antidote for the chaos in my life

Hello! I’m Stephanie…

Welcome to my Woodland Studio.

I currently live in a small house on 27 acres north of Toronto, Ontario, in an area called the Almaguin Highlands. From my studio, I look out at the gardens & woods beyond.

I’m happiest painting in my studio, or outside with my hands in the garden, making inks & pigments, portaging a canoe, or paddling the remote wilderness.

Many painting skills were first acquired in my teen years at a school that focused on the arts. The rest is self-taught & my inspiration is always nature-based, using natural earth pigments as much as possible, giving me a greater sense of understanding & connection with the land.

Thank you for joining me on my journey!

Combining my passion for art with deep reverence for the earth is such a joy.

It is with deep gratitude that I acknowledge the Anishinaabeg and Mississauga people, the first people of this land where we live.

Why I do what I do…

  • When I paint I lose track of time & get lost in the process… it’s an amazing feeling

  • Serene, natural & uplifting, the work I create is a way of sharing what I am unable to fully express with words

I’m attracted to light, our relationship with time, & nature as a reflection of our connection to each other & the land

  • I’m most drawn to exploring & painting vast & moody skies, atmospheric landscapes, & remote wilderness areas

  • Incorporating natural pigments in my artwork, with both curiosity & reverence, brings a connection to the land

which is then shared in each painting, reminding us of our connection to the earth & each other
